As 2025 comes to an end, we at Electrical Oil Services can look back on a year that was marked by far-reaching strategic decisions, important investments and close partnerships. At the same time, 2025 was a year in which we further refined our business model and laid the foundations for strong, future-proof growth – in Germany, the UK and beyond.
Review of 2025 at Electrical Oil Services: a year of setting the course
We would like to highlight four topics:
1. Perfectly positioned for the future: new management & strategic alignment
A key milestone in 2025 was the appointment of Kilian Gerbl as Managing Director of Electrical Oil Services (EOS®). This step was not just a formal change, but the obvious next step after his long-term commitment and consistent development of the business. He has already had a big impact on the business unit over the past few years – with a clear view of market requirements, a strong sense of responsibility and a special connection to EOS®.
Under his leadership, Electrical Oil Services will be positioned even stronger within the Haltermann Carless Group as what it has long been: an independent, European solution provider for insulating oils and transformer services – with structural maturity in the UK and strong roots in Germany.
The shared corporate structure with the German Electrical Oil Services GmbH and the British Electrical Oil Services Ltd. underlines this claim: professionally organised, excellently positioned internationally and ready for further growth.
‘We are facing a super cycle. Electrification is advancing, loads are increasing, and the overall market for transformers will nearly double in the next 20 years. This opens up enormous growth opportunities for us.'

2. Transformer oil recyclingremains part of our DNA: investments in the UK and growing importance in Germany
2025 was a key year for the further development of our recycling capacities – especially in the UK. With the approval of the new centrifuge and an investment volume of around two million Euros at the Stanlow site, we have taken an important step towards further expanding the transformer oil recycling and strengthening our EOS® Closed-Loop model in the long term. These investments are a clear commitment to a more sustainable energy infrastructure.
In Germany, too, the topic of transformer oil recycling is becoming increasingly important. More and more companies are turning to solutions that conserve resources, avoid waste and keep valuable raw materials in circulation. Our EOS® Closed-Loop approach demonstrates the potential of consistent circular use of transformer oils.
‘In the UK, recycled transformer oil has been firmly established for many years and is a natural part of our work. At the same time, demand is growing significantly in Germany, where the EOS Closed Loop model is still in its infancy but developing rapidly. Two markets with different stages of development, but a clear, common trend: more recycling and a more sustainable use of transformer oils. And that's a good thing.'

3. A major European project: our involvement in the Celtic Interconnector
A particular highlight this year was our involvement in the Celtic Interconnector project. On the French side, our teams were responsible for the challenging task of refilling the four large transformers designated for this purpose. Each of these transformers holds around 75,000 litres of insulating oil – a quantity that places the highest demands on planning, material quality and perfectly coordinated processes.
A central component of the project was a total of three complete oil circulations per transformer, combined with a vacuum time of over 48 hours. The Celtic Interconnector itself is the first direct electricity connection between Ireland and continental Europe. The approximately 575-kilometre-long connection cable will transmit up to 700 megawatts in future, facilitating the exchange of renewable energy and strengthening security of supply – a milestone for Ireland, as the country will be connected to the European grid for the first time.
‘Every detail counts, whether in large international projects or comprehensive full-service solutions. It is crucial that all work steps are carried out precisely – so that in the end, transformers are in operation that our customers can rely on 100 per cent.'

4. PCB disposal: A highly relevant issue
2025 has clearly shown how important it remains to handle transformer oils containing PCBs with care. Clear legal limits apply in both the United Kingdom and the EU – and time is running out.
According to the EU Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP Regulation – (EU) 2019/1021), all residual quantities of PCBs in electrical equipment with a concentration above 0.005% (50 ppm) and a volume of more than 50 ml must be destroyed or irreversibly converted by the end of 2025 at the latest.
However, many companies do not know exactly what to do. That is why we recommend a simple but crucial first step:
Tip: Have your transformer oil analysed – this is the only way to be sure that you are acting in good time, complying with legal requirements and reliably assessing potential risks.
‘PCB issues cannot be put off. It is important to analyse insulating oil samples at an early stage, take action and consistently minimise risks – and to rely on a partner who can provide you with reliable support.’

An outlook for 2026: Electrical Oil Services will become even stronger
2026 will be a year of targeted development for Electrical Oil Services – technically, organisationally and operationally. The focus will be on:
- Recycling & Closed Loop Model: We are further developing our recycling processes and strengthening our closed loop approachin order to offer even more consistent sustainable solutions across Europe.
- Complete service for transformers: We are further expanding our role as a reliable partner for refilling, commissioning and comprehensive transformer service – also as a general contractor on request.
- PCB disposal services: With the expiry of legal deadlines, PCB disposalremains a relevant issue. We support companies in reliably identifying residual quantities, implementing measures and documenting all steps in an audit-proof manner.
- Stronger integration of locations: Investments in Stanlow and growing service and recyclingexpertise in Continental Europe are increasingly intertwined. In 2026, we will leverage this European strength even more consistently.
- Digital support: AI-supported tools will provide support where they create added value in practical terms – for example, through better availability of information and more efficient processes.
Electrical Oil Services would like to say thank you for a successful 2025!
We can look back on a year that was characterised by joint successes, intensive cooperation and clear strategic decisions. None of this would have been possible without the trust of our customers, the partnership of our clients and the great commitment of our teams in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Every piece of feedback, every project and every challenge has moved us forward in 2025 – and shown us how valuable strong connections are.
It is with this feeling of gratitude and confidence that we look ahead to the coming year. We look forward to working with you to realise new projects, further develop sustainable solutions and strengthen our cooperation at all levels.
We wish you and your families and friends a happy holiday season, enjoyable moments together and a good start to a healthy and successful 2026.
With kind regards
Sandra Sparenberg, Kilian Gerbl and the entire Electrical Oil Services team
